Lesson 5.8

Professionalism and your setup

Loom walkthrough coming for this lesson. The written version below is complete.

It's easy for formalities and professional standards to slip when you can work from wherever you want. But clients will match your standard, so it's important to keep a professional one. If the check-in is your job and you're delivering amazing results, you need to look like it.

Clients match your standard

Show them casual and they'll give you casual back. The same goes for care: when your messages are thoughtful, well written and on time, theirs tend to be too. Treat people how you want to be treated.

Your recording setup

  • Camera at eye level. Raise your laptop so you're talking to the client, not down at them. It matters most when you're delivering tough love, and it keeps shadows off your face.
  • Good lighting. Face a window or a light.
  • Attire. Keep it professional.
  • Smile. Almost anything lands well when it's said with a smile. It's all about how you say it.

Invest in yourself

If you take this seriously as a job, invest in it: a good laptop, a second screen, a comfortable chair. You're an online coach. This is your business.

Voice notes and messaging standards are covered in Module 7.
