Lesson 5.5

How do I want them to feel?

Loom walkthrough coming for this lesson. The written version below is complete.

Good content delivered harshly still lands badly. You can know exactly what the client needs to hear and still say it in a way that makes them feel like you don't trust them to make their own decisions. That's how you lose people.

Before you give feedback

  1. Ask: "How do I want this person to feel after watching this?" Think about how they'll feel emotionally before you say it, not just what they need to hear.
  2. After you send it, do a quick self-check: did you land the feeling you meant to?

Three small habits with a big payoff

  • Mirror their language. If they say they've been "stressed," use the word stressed when you reflect their week back to them. It shows you actually heard them.
  • Smile. Fit a few genuine smiles into every check-in video. Anything said with a smile lands softer.
  • Camera at eye level (5.8).

When a client has a tough week

Acknowledge the week before you touch the plan. Build yourself a bank of empathetic openers and make them your own. Some examples:

  • "It sounds like a really tough week, [Name]. I appreciate you still showing up and doing what you could."
  • "Thanks for being open about it. Weeks like that can be really challenging."
  • "You had a lot going on. It's completely understandable things felt harder this week."
  • "Your week sounds like a lot to deal with. I'm here to support you with your goals even while you're going through it."
  • "I can see you still tried your best with your steps and meal plan, even with everything going on."
  • "It makes sense things felt overwhelming given everything you had on."
  • "I appreciate your honesty about how the week went. Let's use this check-in to bring some focus to next week."
  • "Even during a tough week you still made an effort, and that matters most. If you keep showing up for yourself when life is hard, the results will come."

Stand there with open arms

If a client is struggling, be patient. Highlight their wins, look for the next small one, and stack them. Micro-momentum. Falling forwards.

And remember Module 1: if progress is being made, don't touch anything. Stop trying to be smarter than the solution.
