Lesson 2.7

Reading between the lines

Loom walkthrough coming for this lesson. The written version below is complete.

The answers are only half the intake. How someone fills it out tells you almost as much as what they write.

Client-type tells

Remember the four types from Module 1:

TypeHow the intake often looksWhat to do
Hot starterLong, enthusiastic, big promises, claims lots of experienceCheck the claims against their current habits. Plan for week 4.
Slow burnerShort, minimal answers, little detailAsk more in your first conversation. Don't fill the gaps with assumptions.
Open strugglerHonest about past attempts that didn't stickMine the dieting history for what failed and why.
ExperiencedSpecific numbers, training terms, clear preferencesConfirm what they know, find where they're stuck.

What the form hides

A form captures what the client is willing to write down, and nothing else. The 32-year-old who'd never cooked didn't say so. The rebound client didn't mention skipping meals. Things to watch for:

  • Gaps between claims and habits. "Very disciplined" plus takeaway every night.
  • Answers that suggest low literacy. Vague portions, confusion about what counts as protein.
  • Anything that sounds rehearsed or extreme. "Whatever it takes", "no carbs", "I just need to be told what to do."

Use your welcome video or first conversation to ask the how and why behind anything that doesn't add up.
