Lesson 2.6

Health and red flags

Loom walkthrough coming for this lesson. The written version below is complete.

The intake is your first chance to spot anything that sits outside coaching. You're not diagnosing. You're noticing, so you know when to work alongside a medical team or refer out before you write the plan.

Ask about:

  • Medical conditions and medications. Thyroid issues, PCOS, diabetes, blood pressure, digestive conditions, pregnancy or post-partum. Clients with these can absolutely be coached, but you work within their medical team's advice, not around it.
  • Current injuries or pain that may need a physio or doctor first.
  • Relationship with food. Past or current restriction, skipping meals to "save" calories, bingeing, or exercising to make up for eating.

The rebound client from Module 1 was under-eating outside the plan, and I didn't know. A dieting-history question that asks how they lost weight before, and how it came back, is often where this first shows up.

Module 7 covers what to do when something comes up: the conversation, the referral, and keeping the client supported while they get the right help.
